Split before you import
Most players choke on group parsing, not on channel count. Split the playlist by group tag and import in batches.
Validating entries
Run a quick reachability pass before you trust the list. Dead entries are the reason channel numbering drifts.
Deduplicating
Dedupe on the channel ID, never on the display name. Providers rename channels far more often than they renumber them.
